AP COURSE GUIDE
Seminole High School offers a wide variety of Advanced Placement (AP) courses designed for motivated, college-bound students seeking rigorous academic experiences while still in high school. Participating colleges and universities may award college credit based on AP examination scores.
The courses below are designed for the motivated college-bound student who wishes to pursue college level work while still in high school.

For all AP courses below, the challenging nature of the course requires the student to devote significant quantities of time and effort outside regular class time. Participating colleges and universities may award credit based on the results of the Advanced Placement examination.

These courses fulfill the graduation requirement for an “Equally Rigorous Course” as defined by the Florida Department of Education.

Description: AP Human Geography introduces students to the systematic study of patterns and processes that have shaped human understanding, use, and alteration of Earth’s surface.

Prerequisite: None
Description: This course introduces students to the systematic and scientific study of the behavior and mental processes of human beings and animals.

Prerequisite: None
Description: This class surveys the early 1400s to present day European History. Using historical primary and secondary texts, students will hear from the voices of the past while processing concepts in the present context of European attitudes and politics. Students will be required to take the College Board issued AP exam in May.

Prerequisite: United States History
Description: AP United States Government & Politics provides students with an analytical perspective on government and politics in the United States. Students explore constitutional foundations, political beliefs and behaviors, institutions, public policy, civil rights, and civil liberties. Students will be required to take the College Board issued AP exam in May.

Description: AP Microeconomics provides students the opportunity to develop analytical economic knowledge necessary for understanding the behaviors of individuals and firms. Students explore markets, marginal analysis, production choices, and public policy. Students will be required to take the College Board issued AP exam in May.

Description: AP Macroeconomics provides students the opportunity to develop analytical economic knowledge necessary for understanding the national economy. Students explore monetary and fiscal policy, inflation, unemployment, national markets, and trade policy. Students will be required to take the College Board issued AP exam in May.

Description: Launching in the 2026-27 school year, AP Business with Personal Finance is a yearlong course aligned closely with a college-level introduction to business course. Students explore entrepreneurship, marketing, finance, accounting, and management through real-world applications and project-based learning while also studying personal financial literacy concepts.

Description: AP Art History is designed for students who are interested in an enriching and practical understanding of art appreciation from a global perspective. Students will gain an understanding of social, political, historical, cultural contexts of civilizations, and art movements of the past, present, and near future. Artistic ability is NOT required for the study of AP Art History. Students will be required to take the College Board issued AP exam in May.

Description: This course encourages and expects both the creative and systematic study of conceptual and formal issues relating to drawing, painting, or digital medias. Highly motivated students will be provided with an environment that fosters artistic growth, work ethic and focus. Students are expected to strive towards mastery and develop a true understanding of the artistic creation as an ongoing process. A significant commitment of time is necessary to achieve excellence in both preliminary and final artworks. Students will be challenged and make informed decisions based on learned techniques, as well as natural instinct. Students will perform at an intense level of production, working both inside and out of class studio to create a sustained investigation body of 15 or more superior artworks.

Description: The AP 3-Dimensional Design Portfolio course is designed for serious students that will create a minimum of 16 master artworks and the opportunity to earn college credit. Students will develop a portfolio based upon the rules and regulations of the National College Board and will submit an accomplished body of work along with sketchbook planning layouts for each work.

Description: This course encourages and expects both the creative and systematic study of conceptual and formal drawing. This course focuses upon mark making using digital media, drawing, or drawing with paint. Highly motivated students will be provided with an environment that fosters artistic growth, work ethic and focus.

Prerequisite: Strong background in music fundamentals
Description: This is not a beginning music class. The purpose of this course is to develop a student’s ability to recognize, understand and describe the basic materials and processes of music that are heard or presented in a score.

Description: The AP Spanish Language and Culture course is equivalent to an intermediate level college course in Spanish. It links language and culture while developing students’ proficiency in speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

Description: AP Seminar is a foundational course that engages students in cross-curricular conversations that explore the complexities of academic and real-world topics and issues by analyzing divergent perspectives. Students learn to synthesize information from multiple sources, develop their own perspectives in research-based essays, and deliver oral and visual presentations. Students will be required to take the College Board issued AP exam in May.

Description: AP Research allows students to deeply explore an academic topic, problem, or issue of individual interest. Students design, plan, and conduct a year-long research investigation culminating in an academic paper and oral defense presentation. Description: AP Statistics introduces students to the major concepts and tools for collecting, analyzing, and drawing conclusions from data. Topics include exploring data, planning studies, simulation, and statistical inference. Students will be required to take the College Board issued AP exam in May.

Prerequisite: Algebra 2 or taking Algebra 2 Honors concurrently
Description: AP Precalculus provides a foundation for the study of Calculus. Topics include algebraic, exponential, polynomial, rational, logarithmic, and trigonometric functions along with polar equations and complex numbers. Students will be required to take the College Board issued AP exam in May.

Description: AP Calculus AB is designed for highly motivated college-bound students pursuing college-level mathematics while in high school. Topics include limits, continuity, derivatives, integrals, and applications. Students will be required to take the College Board issued AP exam in May.

Description: AP Calculus BC expands upon AP Calculus AB with additional topics including sequences, series, parametric equations, vectors, and polar functions. Students will be required to take the College Board issued AP exam in May.

Description: AP Biology is a first-year college-level biology course covering biochemistry, cellular and molecular biology, evolution, and ecology. Laboratory and practical work are included throughout the course. Students will be required to take the College Board issued AP exam in May.

Description: AP Chemistry provides an in-depth quantitative study of chemical principles, concepts, and experimental methods. Students explore atomic structure, bonding, reactions, kinetics, thermodynamics, and equilibrium through inquiry-based investigations and laboratory work. Students will be required to take the College Board issued AP exam in May.

Description: AP Environmental Science provides students with scientific principles and concepts needed to understand the interrelationships of the natural world, environmental issues, and potential solutions to environmental challenges. Prerequisite: Algebra 2 Honors (concurrent or completed), and Chemistry Honors (concurrent or completed)
Description: AP Physics 1 is an algebra-based introductory college-level physics course exploring Newtonian mechanics, energy, momentum, and gravitation through inquiry-based learning and laboratory investigations. Students will be required to take the College Board issued AP exam in May.

Prerequisite: Physics Honors or AP Physics 1 (2003421), Chemistry, Algebra 2 Honors and concurrently taking Pre-Calculus or Calculus
Description: AP Physics 2 is equivalent to a second-semester college course in algebra-based physics covering fluid mechanics, thermodynamics, electricity and magnetism, optics, and atomic and nuclear physics. Students will be required to take the College Board issued AP exam in May.
2003430 AP PHYSICS C: MECHANICS/ELECTRICITY & MAGNETISM Grade: 12 Credit: 1
Prerequisite: Pre-Calculus, Physics Honors or AP Physics 1 and concurrently taking AP Calculus BC
Description: AP Physics C is a calculus-based university-level physics course covering classical mechanics and electrodynamics. Approximately 25 percent of instructional time is devoted to inquiry-based laboratory work. Students will be required to take the College Board issued AP exam in May.

Description: AP Computer Science Principles introduces students to the foundational concepts of computer science and challenges them to explore how computing and technology impact the world. Students develop computational thinking skills while learning programming, data analysis, internet technologies, cybersecurity, and the creative aspects of computing. Students will be required to take the College Board issued AP exam in May.
